Beyond the Edge (BtE) is a course provider for Mountain Training and the National Navigation Awards Scheme. We additionally run a range of bespoke courses / activities.
Beyond the Edge is committed to protecting your privacy and encourages you to read this policy which explains why and how we collect, use, safeguard and delete your personal information.

Why we need your personal information – legitimate interests

When you book a place with us for and attend a course, we need to collect your personal information so that we can honour your booking and to enable you to participate in the course.

Where we process your personal information in pursuit of our legitimate interests, you have the right to object to us using your personal information for the above purposes. If you wish to object to any of the above processing, please contact us at info@beyondtheedge.co.uk If we comply with your objection, this may affect our ability to undertake the tasks above for the benefit of you as a participant.

What we need

If you would like to register on one of our courses we will ask you for the following personal information:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Email address
  • Emergency contact name and phone number
  • Billing address
  • Special requirements

    • How do we collect your information

    BtE will collect information about you, when you:

  • use BtE’s website, beyondtheedge.co.uk
  • submit a course booking form or place an order for bespoke services
  • contact us, via our website (enquiry form) or by telephone, email, post or otherwise
  • attend one of our courses or receive other services from us
  • interact with us on social media
  • voluntarily complete any client feedback forms or client surveys

    • BtE may also collect information about your computer, including your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration. This provides statistical information only about your browsing actions and patterns. It does not identify you as an individual.

    How we use your information

    BtE will use the information it collects about you (and your website usage) to:

  • process your booking and payment
  • deliver our courses and / or other services to you
  • understand your needs and provide you with an efficient quality service
  • ensure the content on its website is presented in the most effective way for you and your computer
  • improve our courses and services

    • BtE may also, periodically, if you consent, use the information to:

  • send you promotional emails about its courses
  • send you other information by email that it thinks you may find useful or interesting

    • BtE will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

    Sharing your information

    When you book a course or engage BtE to provide bespoke services to you, you agree (as part of BtE’s terms and conditions) to your personal information (including medical information) being shared with BtE’s staff, suppliers, agents and sub-contractors, including course directors and BtE’s medical adviser. This information is shared for the purpose of providing you with the course or bespoke services. BtE will only share information that it deems necessary for that purpose.

    The other occasions when BtE will disclose or share your personal information with third parties is:

  • if it is under a legal duty to do so
  • if, in its reasonable opinion, it believes such action is necessary to comply with any legal requirements or legal process served on BtE, or to enforce or apply its website terms of use, or to protect the rights, property or safety of BtE, its website, clients or others. This includes exchanging information with organisations involved in fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

    • Security of your information

    The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure, and so while BtE will do its best to safeguard your information once it has received it using appropriate procedures and security features, BtE cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit via its website. Any transmission of information will be at your own risk. 

    Your personal information is stored on our electronic filing system and our servers based in the EU, and is accessed by our staff for the purposes set out above.

    How long we keep your personal information

    We will only keep your personal information for as long as necessary to provide you with services. Unless you ask us not to, we will review and possibly delete your personal information in accordance with our retention schedule. A copy of this is available upon request.

    Use of cookies

    Cookies are small text files that are stored on a computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to help users navigate websites and to improve the efficiency and usability of websites. They also provide information about user activity to a website owner.

    A cookie will be created when you visit BtE’s website. Information from that cookie will be used by BtE to track visitor use of its website and to compile statistical reports on its website activity.     BtE’s website contains links to other websites. BtE does not accept any responsibility or liability for the privacy and cookies policies or content of other websites.

    Your Rights

    You can exercise any of the following rights by writing to us at info@beyondtheedge.co.uk. Your rights in relation to your personal information are:

  • you have a right to request access to the personal information we hold about you by making a”subject access request”;
  • if you believe any of your personal information is inaccurate or incomplete, you have a right to request that we correct or complete your personal information;
  • if you wish us to delete your personal information, you may request that we do so.

    • Any requests received by Beyond the Edge will be considered under applicable data protection legislation. If you remain dissatisfied, you have a right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office at www.ico.org.uk
