Klean Kanteen TKPro Flask Review
The weather over the last few weeks has been typically wintery ie driving wind, rain and sleet or lovely crisp frosty days dry but very cold. Here at Beyond the Edge our outdoor courses will continue to run right up to Christmas. Then in January, February and March we will be working on our Scottish winter season with Winter Walking and Mountaineering Skills courses.
This type of weather always has me reaching into the cupboard for an insulated flask. The November and December Rock Climbing Instructor training and assessment courses have seem me out on the Eastern Edge of the Peak District. It’s been very cheering to be able to sup a hot drink.
Over the years I’ve used most of the popular brands; Stanley, Thermos and Primus but this winter I’ve been using the excellent Klean Kanteen TLPro flasks. I been happily using the Klean Kanteen water bottles for a few years, they are very durable and I fancied having a couple of flasks that will put with the same levels of abuse.
I’ve been using the larger 750ml one for climbing courses when I’ll be a bit more static and I’m not too worried about the weight of my pack. The smaller slimmer 500ml version I’ve taken on Navigation courses and Hill and Moorland leader courses.
TLPro flasks are plastic free and made of food grade stainless steel, with a stainless steel cup and cap with a silicone seal. The lid is very innovative with a 360° pour through design which allows pouring from any angle. The cup is insulated with double wall construction and is very pleasant to drink out of.
I’ve been filling the flasks with either coffee, green tea or miso soup and they all have been kept piping hot. Klean Kanteen claim that hot drinks will stay hot for 28 hours and cold for 90 hours. I haven’t tested these figures but the Independent newspaper did and it’s actually true!
As an added bonus Klean Kanteen are a B Corp Corporation and like Beyond the Edge are a 1% For The Planet member.
