History

For over twenty years Beyond the Edge has trained climbers, walkers and mountaineers. We are one of the UK’s most experienced providers of Mountain Training courses including the Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader, Mountain Leader, Climbing Wall Instructor, Climbing Wall Development Instructor and the Rock Climbing Instructor Awards. We also deliver the Rock Climbing Skills and Hill and Mountain Skills schemes from Mountain Training. Additionally, we run courses for the BMC for both clubs and individuals.

Based in Sheffield it is run by Alex & Chris who each have over 25 years of mountaineering experience, from the famous gritstone of their local edges to the 8000m peaks of the Himalaya.

Instructors on tour! Sub-zero temperatures are a bit of a shock for Claire, James, Hati and Mel who have just returned from the Greek Island of Kalymnos (the Mecca of sport climbing).

A week or so of tufas, snorkelling, good food, ice-cream and being hassled by goats - you can't really beat Kalymnos as a climbing destination with a proper holiday feel!

And they're back just in time for the grit conditions to get really good...

Great time visiting the wonderful Isle of Man and a real privilege to spend some time with this crew. We did spend quite a lot of time in the mist, although I was assured this was the magical cloak of Manannan Mac-y-Lierr not good old fashioned clag! Despite the warm hospitality and myriad of legends, I can’t deny I was most excited by the fleeting views of a Hen Harrier.
